How does the process work?

Each month, the social workers from the county provides Birthday Boxs with a list of children in foster care who have upcoming birthdays and may not have an advocate, foster family, or other support system available to celebrate them. To protect each child’s privacy, we receive only the information needed to create a meaningful birthday gift, such as their age, gender, and interests. Our team then shops specifically for each child, choosing gifts based on what they enjoy. Every gift is thoughtfully wrapped and placed in one of our Birthday Boxs, or a birthday gift bag when needed, creating a personalized celebration just for them. From a simple list of interests to a box filled with joy, every Birthday Box is created to remind a child that they are remembered, valued, and worth celebrating.

Donations support Birthday Boxes' mission, including the gifts, supplies, decorations, programs, and resources necessary to provide birthday celebrations to children in foster care

Who receives Birthday Boxs?

Birthday Boxes serves children and youth experiencing foster care here in Kern County. We work with Kern County directly.

Are Birthday Boxs personalized?

Yes. Whenever possible, boxes are created based on the child's age, interests, preferences, and birthday needs so the celebration feels special and personal.

Can I sponsor a specific child?

Yes you can choose to sponsor a specific child. We post on instragram monthly the list of kids that have birthdays that month. We post their age, gender, and interests. You can choose a child that way. Because protecting the privacy and safety of children in foster care is extremely important, identifying information about individual children is not shared publicly. Sponsorships help us create personalized celebrations while respecting each child's privacy.

Can my business or organization get involved?

Absolutely. Businesses, churches, schools, clubs, and organizations can participate through sponsorships, donation drives, volunteering, financial contributions, and community partnerships.

Can I donate birthday supplies instead of money?

Yes. Birthday Boxes may accept approved new birthday supplies, toys, gifts, decorations, and other requested items. A current wish list can be provided so donations meet the needs of the children we serve. Address drop off is 8224 Espresso Drive Suite 200 Bakersfield CA 93312.

Birthday Boxs is a nonprofit organization dedicated to making birthdays special for children experiencing foster care. Founded in 2019, our organization began with one question: “How can a child not be celebrated?” Today, that question continues to guide everything we do.
